Assam Agricultural University (AAU) is a state Agricultural University affiliated with Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Govt. of India. AAU includes the Faculties of Agricultural, Veterinary, Fishery and Home Science. The teaching activities include undergraduate, masters and PhD degree courses. In total, AAU has six teaching campuses and around 20 campuses dealing with research related to the local and national issues. The main campus of AAU is located in the district of Jorhat (eastern Assam). The Faculty of Agricultural Science includes several disciplines related to crop production and improvement. Plant virology is dealt by the department of Plant Pathology and Agricultural Biotechnology. It should be stressed that the northeastern part of India (where the state of Assam is located) harbors two biodiversity hot-spots and is the centre of origin of several cultivated and uncultivated plant species (citrus, bamboo, orchids). |
