Duration of working period 21 months
Title and Brief report of the work (max 300 words)

Title of the Thesis: Molecular characterization of isolated bacteriophages of Pseudomonas savastanoi pv. savastanoi.                                                  Objectives:  1. Isolation of bacteriophages of Pseudomonas savastanoi pv. savastanoi from both plant parts and soil from the infected fields

2. Electron Microscopy study of the isolated bacteriophages

3. Molecular characterization of the isolated bacteriophages.

In the present study, 11 bacteriophages infecting Pseudomonas savastanoi pv. savastanoi were isolated from an olive knot infected field in Agria, Volos, Greece. Three rounds of purification were carried out to obtain phages having one genetic clone. Morphological characterization by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) has shown that all the samples had an icosahedral head along with a tail suggesting that they belong to the Order Caudovirales.Next generation sequencing (NGS) and subsequent bioinformatics analysis of the sequences showed the presence of novel virulent phages of P. savastanoi pv. savastanoi that are yet to be completely characterized..
